Review of the Korean drama "My Dearest" (2023)

"My Dearest" is a beautifully made drama that tells a moving and heartwarming story of love, loss, and redemption. The acting is top-notch, the cinematography is stunning, and the story is well-paced and engaging.

The drama is set during the Qing invasion of Joseon, and it follows the story of Lee Jang Hyun (Namgoong Min), a mysterious man who appears in the midst of the chaos. He is a cold and withdrawn man who has no interest in forming relationships, but he is drawn to Yoo Gil Chae (Ahn Eun Jin), a kind and compassionate woman.

Gil Chae is a widow who is raising her young son alone. She is struggling to make ends meet, but she is determined to give her son a better life. When she meets Jang Hyun, she is initially wary of him, but she soon realizes that he is not who he seems.

Jang Hyun and Gil Chae slowly begin to fall in love, but their relationship is complicated by the war and the secrets that Jang Hyun is keeping. As they struggle to survive in a time of great upheaval, they must learn to trust each other and find hope in the midst of despair.

The drama does an excellent job of capturing the harsh realities of war. The scenes of battle are graphic and realistic, and they effectively convey the sense of chaos and destruction that war brings. However, the drama also finds moments of beauty and hope, even in the midst of the darkness.

The performances by the cast are all excellent. Namgoong Min is particularly good as Jang Hyun, bringing a quiet intensity to the role. Ahn Eun Jin is also very good as Gil Chae, capturing her strength and vulnerability.

The cinematography is also worth noting. The drama is beautifully shot, with many striking visuals that help to bring the story to life.

Overall, "My Dearest" is a well-made and moving drama that is sure to stay with you long after you watch it. It is a story of love, loss, and redemption that will touch your heart.

Here are some of the things that I liked about the drama:

  • The acting was top-notch. Namgoong Min and Ahn Eun Jin were both excellent in their roles, and the supporting cast was also very good.
  • The story was well-paced and engaging. I never felt bored or lost interest in the story.
  • The cinematography was stunning. The drama was beautifully shot, with many striking visuals.
  • The themes of love, loss, and redemption were handled well. The drama was heartwarming and emotional, but it never felt too cheesy or sentimental.

Here are some of the things that I didn't like about the drama:

  • The ending was a bit rushed. I felt like the drama could have used one more episode to wrap things up more neatly.
  • Some of the historical details were inaccurate. For example, the drama showed the Qing army using cannons, which they did not actually use until the 19th century.

Overall, I enjoyed "My Dearest" and would recommend it to fans of historical dramas and romance dramas. It is a well-made and moving drama that is sure to stay with you long after you watch it.
